We use the scope and sequence from the Saxon Math Program and incorporate materials from other math programs on a regular basis. The five major strands of mathematics in lower school are:
- reasoning and problem solving
- spatial sense with geometric concepts
- number sense
- computation and estimation
- patterns and relationships
The math curriculum addresses these strands each year with increasing depth and complexity. We present problems using role-play, stories and literature, manipulatives, real objects, pictures and graphs. Students work independently, in pairs and in groups, and learn to apply mathematics to solve problems in everyday life.
