or related language-based learning differences

The Summer at Jemicy program endeavors to minimize the problem of summer learning loss by reinforcing and maintaining reading, language arts, math, and organizational skills learned throughout the preceding year.

Afternoon programming offers a wide array of educational, recreational, and creative options that will inspire participants and keep them academically and imaginatively engaged.

LOWER SCHOOL

4 Weeks (Grades 1 - 5)

Daily MORNING instruction focuses on reading and math support.

Small-group literacy instruction from Jemicy teachers, using Orton-Gillingham-based, multi-sensory structured literacy programs.
Math classes to reinforce number sense and “math thinking” through games, stories, and fun activities.
Outdoor science-based adventures in our expansive woods and outdoor play space.
Themed ELA classes that incorporate comprehension, vocabulary development and creative thinking.

Lower School afternoon programming offers recreational and creative, fun-filled activities,

including drama, dance, gym & field games, arts & crafts, and more.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

CHOOSE 1 - 4 WEEKS (GRADES 6-8)

Unique, themed MORNING adventures provide a well-rounded educational experience.

Students will have instruction on language arts skills focusing on reading comprehension and writing organization; math skills including general operations and pre-algebra skills; and executive functioning skills including time management, event planning, and organization. Students will make connections between academic lessons and the real world in a supportive environment.

Morning Themes Overview

Week 1: Time Off in the Tropics!
Experience a vacation in a tropical environment without leaving home. Classes will discuss budgeting and planning a beach vacation, an exploration of exotic locales, and stories about tropical getaways gone wrong!
Week 2: Adventure
Learn with an adventurous spirit through a discussion of wild exploits and their consequences. Topics range from classic adventure stories from Ancient Greece to campers planning and preparing for an adventure of their own design.
Week 3: Heroes and Villains!
Focus on the daring or dastardly actions of heroic and villainous characters. Campers will explore their own actions as they become heroes and villains and examine them in popular culture.
Week 4: Journey into Mystery
Investigate the qualities of a good mystery in life and how the unexpected changes us. Classes will discuss how mysteries infect our lives through the use of variables and shady characters. Games throughout the week will leave us guessing!

Middle School afternoon, interactive, hands-on courses – including woodworking, engineering, science, photography, electronics, weaving, 3D design, comic book creation, creative writing, soccer, and more – will keep participants engaged academically, creatively, and socially.
