Hear directly from our students about their unique Jemicy journeys and from the faculty and administrators who guide them. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and take an optional tour of the Upper School.

Teaching Students to Read (Students Entering Grades 1-9)
Parents and educators will have the privilege to learn from Director of Outreach Megan McGowan, an internationally recognized expert on teaching children with dyslexia. Discover how the “reading brain” works, and why some children struggle with the acquisition of reading skills. Experience first-hand some of the multisensory activities we utilize and discuss how the latest brain research influences our curriculum, our instructional approach, and our highly structured teaching techniques. Best of all, understand how we engage students and lay the groundwork for the development of a confident reader and a joyful learner.

Teaching Students to Write (Students Entering Grades 1-9)
Jemicy’s explicit and systemic instruction will be demonstrated for parents and educators who want to better understand our approach to teaching students to write, beginning with spelling, vocabulary development, and grammar. Internationally recognized expert, Director of Outreach Megan McGowan, will break down the complex process of writing and explain how we teach the progression from sentence-level writing to paragraphs and essays using our own copyrighted program, Paragraphology. The result is a confident writer who possesses a unique style and voice.
