Countless hours of hard work, incorporating science, engineering, and art, paid off in a big way on May 6 as our five Kinetic Sculpture Race vehicles paid homage to Jemicy’s 50th anniversary, winning an Ace Award and Best Pit Crew Award. But by far the greatest reward was seeing the students come together as a team, overcome obstacles, and obtain their goals--all while having an absolute blast!
All that stood between our teams and the finish line was 15 miles of pavement, a sand pit, a lap in the Chesapeake Bay, and a mud pit – what could go wrong? With 13 years of experience in the KSR, industrial design instructor, August DiMucci, was there to help them every step of the way, but she is the first to admit the overwhelming support of the school community plays a huge role in Jemicy’s KSR success.
As teams completed the water portion of the race, they were treated to lunch at the Jemicy Alumni Tent which served up burgers and hot dogs with Alumni Director Jared Bierer and IT Director Phil Hoesch manning the grill. The entire Canton Waterfront Park was buzzing with the zany, exuberant, energy from the crowd that is a hallmark of AVAM's KSR event.
Congratulations to each and every participant. Thank you for demonstrating to the world your unique talents. We can’t wait to see what you come up with next year!
